Practice Coaching
Interested in hiring a practice coach? Here's how it works!
First, you’ll have a free 15-minute video consult with me. You’ll tell me a little bit about yourself, your musical life, your goals, and what your current practice routine looks like. If you don’t have a practice routine yet, no problem! After the consult, I’ll write up a summary of the services I think you would benefit from based on our conversation. You can decide what you’d like to do—from a few sessions of live video coaching during practice time to a total overhaul of your practice routine! Scroll down to read about all the services I offer.
After that, we’ll work together to set a schedule for coaching, and you can decide which services you’d like to have going forward.
There’s no judgment, no one-size-fits-all approach, and no fixed mindsets—ever!
If you’re a parent of a child who’s taking private lessons or is enrolled in school music and you want to support their at-home practicing, practice coaching is a great way to start! My coaching is always tailored to each student’s unique stage of development, so young students will receive coaching and practice plans that they can easily understand. We will all work together as a unit to ensure your child succeeds during practicing. All of my services are available to students of all levels, so get in touch today or read on to learn more about what I can offer you and your child.
Live Video Coaching
The best way to improve practicing habits is to make the best of practice time—and live coaching provides direction, encouragement, and feedback in real time!
In a live coaching session, we set up a Zoom call during your practice hour, and I give step-by-step direction to help you navigate your practice time. You tell me your goals for the day, the music you need to practice, and all the details of what you want to work on—and then I give you specific strategies for meeting those goals. I can give clear directions for each portion of your practice time, giving you specific activities and strategies for practicing music, followed by feedback in real time.
Live coaching is great for students who are still building practice habits and need sustained support to succeed in private lessons—and I’ve got practice strategies for all levels and ages, from pre-Twinkle Suzuki beginners to high school students preparing for college auditions.
My coaching style varies based on your needs. If you need encouragement, I’m there to cheer you on! If you want intense training, I’ll be your micromanager. If you need help tackling a specific piece of music, I’ll dive right in with practice strategies and stick around as long as you need.
Each session lasts up to one hour.
Written Practice Plans
Individualized practice plans come in daily, weekly, or monthly formats.
Daily
Your daily practice plan is a minute-by-minute breakdown of a single practice session. You decide how long you want to practice each day, and I take care of the rest! Your practice session will be broken down to the minute, with detailed descriptions of each activity that I recommend for the session. This plan is based on our initial consult and is crafted to meet your individual needs and goals.
Weekly
Your weekly practice plan outlines a full week of practice sessions, one per day based on your schedule and your goals. You decide how long you want to practice each day, and I lay out a plan for how to best use that time in the practice room. If you have a busy schedule and want to get the most out of those days when you only have fifteen free minutes to practice, this is the plan for you! Based on how long you can practice each day, I’ll write a plan for each day that breaks down the session into 5, 10, or 15 minute sections with activities. This weekly plan is not as detailed as the daily plans, but it does give you a week-long outline of how to progress from one practice session to the next.
Monthly
Your monthly practice plan is a birds-eye view of the process you need to meet your long-term practice goals. You will receive a calendar page with an outline of each day’s schedule, detailing how long to practice, what activities to complete each day, and how to ramp up your total practice time, tackle new music, or prepare for an upcoming performance. The monthly plan is best for mapping out long-term progress so you can plan ahead for meeting your goals.
All of these practice plans can be mixed and matched, and if you need more detail for a specific week or a zoomed-out picture of a whole month to map your progress, you can request any combination of practice plans!
From Zero to Sixty Minutes—Comprehensive Practice Routine Development
This intensive package covers everything you need to go from practicing zero minutes a day to a full hour in six weeks, complete with a regular routine, specific steps for achieving individualized goals, a written practice plan for each week, and twelve sessions of live coaching. After the six weeks are over, we regroup and decide together what you need going forward. We can schedule another six week intensive, or choose from any of the services I offer based on what you need to meet your goals.
This package is great for students who have not yet built up a practice habit and need positive, non-judgmental support to develop a sustainable routine.
Financing
Once you decide on any combination of coaching options, I will provide an invoice for all costs with a breakdown of each service and its associated rate. You choose how you’d like to pay: total cost up front, or service-by-service! If you’d like to pay by the service, each payment is due the day the service is provided, like the day of a scheduled coaching or the day a practice plan is delivered. Your first consult is always free!
